Statewide Moratorium Was Nation-Leading; Hochul Must Stand Firm
Albany, NY – It is highly likely that Governor Kathy Hochul will win her bid for reelection tonight. In July, Gov. Hochul issued an executive order enacting a temporary moratorium on the permitting and construction of new hyperscale data centers in New York. This was the first statewide data center moratorium enacted in the country.
In reaction to Governor Hochul’s re-election, Food & Water Watch’s New York State Director Laura Shindell issued the following statement:
“New Yorkers are counting on the governor to maintain her leadership by keeping the data center moratorium in effect indefinitely. The governor should stand strong on the most popular policy stance she’s ever had.”
