"The governor has made it abundantly clear for years now that she stands with polluters over everyday New Yorkers."
Albany, NY – Today Governor Hochul finally released a proposal to decimate New York’s landmark climate law, following months of public attacks on the law and calling for the legislature to somehow roll it back. Specifically, Governor Hochul has proposed to delay implementing regulations until 2030 and to change the methane accounting method used in the Climate Leadership & Community Protection Act.
In response, Food & Water Watch’s New York State Director Laura Shindell issued this statement:
“Governor Hochul’s attempt to bully the legislature into decimating New York’s landmark climate law is disgraceful. The governor has made it abundantly clear for years now that she stands with polluters over everyday New Yorkers. This latest attempt to move the goalposts in the state’s climate law is nothing but another cynical ploy to keep us locked into the dirty, expensive fossil fuels of the past. Our legislative leaders must stand strong and reject this and any future attack on our essential climate law.”
