WashingtonNov. 4 – Tonight’s most prominent and consequential election results from across the country all point to a clear and decisive repudiation of President Trump and his cruel, destructive agenda. For example:

  • California: Voters overwhelmingly approved Proposition 50, an election redistricting measure that served as a direct response to Trump-led efforts in many other states to manipulate electoral districts to explicitly benefit Republican Congressional candidates in coming elections.
  • Virginia: Rep. Abigail Spanberger decisively flipped the governorship in this key bellwether state from Republican to Democrat, winning by twice the margin that Harris had in carrying the state
  • New Jersey: Rep. Mikie Sherrill also won by double digits with Democrats holding the governorship for the third consecutive term – the first time this has occurred in New Jersey in years. The majority of Food & Water Action’s slate of climate champion candidates for mayor and city council in Jersey City either won their race outright or will advance to the December runoff election.
  • New York City: In a three-way race, a majority of voters chose State Rep. Zohran Mamdani as the next mayor of America’s largest city, despite Trump’s endorsement of well-known former Governor Andrew Cuomo.
  • Pennsylvania: In retaining all three Democratic Supreme Court Justices on the ballot, Democrats will maintain the majority on the state’s high court in this highly predictive swing state. Former Food & Water Watch volunteer leader Tara Zrinski won her race for Northampton County Executive.

In response, Food & Water Watch Executive Director Wenonah Hauter issued the following statement:

“Collectively, these election results send a clear and decisive message: Americans are disgusted with Trump and his Republican enablers, and they unequivocally reject the Trump agenda of cruelty and corruption. The lesson should be obvious: Trump must stop trying to rule like a king, and Republicans must immediately work with Democrats to refund the government in a manner that protects people, public health and our environment.”
