Advocates call on Hochul to stand up to Trump, block dangerous fracked gas project

New York – Today the New York State Public Service Commission (PSC) approved a long-term energy plan from National Grid that includes new fracked gas infrastructure like the highly controversial Williams North East Supply Enhancement (NESE) pipeline project. The pipeline will require Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) water quality permits to proceed. 120+ groups and 130+ elected officials are urging Governor Hochul to stop the Trump-backed pipeline.

National Grid has acknowledged that the project would raise New Yorkers’ gas bills by 3.5%. New York previously denied the pipeline multiple times for failing to meet water quality and climate standards.

In response, Food & Water Watch’s New York State Director Laura Shindell released the following statement:

”Today the Public Service Commission confirmed what New Yorkers have feared: Governor Hochul is seeking to fast-track a polluting fossil fuel project that President Trump has been pushing. This foolish plan would put everyday New Yorkers on the hook to pay for a filthy, climate-killing fracked gas pipeline that isn’t wanted or needed. We will be ramping up the pressure on Hochul to ensure that this pipeline is never built. It’s not too late for her to turn things around, stand up to Trump, and help ensure a clean, safe, renewable energy future for all New Yorkers.”
