Senate Vote on Bad Nuclear Bill Likely Coming Next Week
News reports this morning indicate that Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has decided to endorse and fast-track a Senate vote on the ADVANCE Act, legislation that would incentivize the development of new nuclear energy projects throughout the country.
In response, Food & Water Watch Executive Director Wenonah Hauter issued the following statement:
“Senator Schumer’s apparent embrace of new nuclear energy development represents a stark betrayal of the clean, safe renewable energy options like wind and solar that he claims to champion. Nuclear energy is dangerous. It poses alarming risks to public health and the safety of our air and waterways, and there is no legitimate solution for dealing with the inherent problem of deadly radioactive waste.
“Every dollar wasted on unproven, enormously expensive nuclear energy schemes is a dollar not invested in truly clean, safe and increasingly efficient wind and solar power. The Senate and President Biden must quickly come to their senses and reject the dangerous and unaffordable false promises of toxic nuclear energy.”
