Manager of Individual Philanthropy

The Manager of Individual Philanthropy will work closely with donors and other staff at Food & Water Watch.

SUMMARY:

Food & Water Watch is looking for a Manager of Individual Philanthropy to join our Philanthropy team and help raise funds to protect our food, water, and climate. The Manager of Individual Philanthropy will work closely with donors and other staff at Food & Water Watch. This position is a Union position covered under a contract between Food & Water Watch and the Non-profit Professional Employees Union (NPEU).

About the position:
The Manager of Individual Philanthropy will report to the Senior Manager of Philanthropy Events, and will work closely with the Managing Director of Philanthropy. The Manager of Individual Philanthropy plays a key role on our national major giving team, and is responsible for the cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of major donors giving $2,500 annually, including through the planning and execution of virtual and in-person major donor engagement events. 

Salary: 

New York: $70,000-$77,000

Location: This is a fully remote (work-from-home) position. The candidate must be based in New York, with the ability to travel regularly to meet donors across the country.

Responsibilities 

  1. Manage Food & Water Watch’s major gifts program in collaboration with fellow major gifts team members.
  2. Cultivate, solicit, and steward donors making annual gifts of $2,500 and above.
  3. Use moves management practices to secure major gifts, strengthen the current pipeline, and secure annual and multi-year commitments 
  4. Prepare written materials for individual donors, including correspondence, solicitation materials, acknowledgements, and reports as part of the stewardship program.
  5. Identify prospects and perform baseline prospect research to qualify potential major donors as necessary.
  6. Consider planned giving options for donors in assigned portfolio, and manage relationships with current planned gift donors.
  7. Plan and execute regular virtual and in-person cultivation and stewardship events (dinners, hosting virtual briefings, etc) for prospective and current major donors, in collaboration with fellow major gifts team members and the Senior Manager of Philanthropy Events. 
  8. Collaborate with members of the communications and graphics team to draft and distribute event invitations, in both digital and print form. 
  9. Provide support for Food & Water Watch’s annual fundraising benefit, including recruiting sponsorship gifts from major donors and assisting with event logistics. 
  10. Maintain a working knowledge of Food & Water Watch national campaign priorities, with specific attention paid to efforts in areas of high relevance to portfolio donors. 
  11. Travel to donor meetings (local, regional, and national) and assigned regional events to provide on-site support (up to 50%) 
  12. Carry out other projects as assigned. 

Required Qualifications: 

  • At least 3-5 years of full-time fundraising experience, consisting of major donor management and event planning experience – or an equivalent combination of full-time and volunteer experience. 
  • Demonstrated ability to develop effective fundraising strategies and coordinate in-person and virtual donor engagement events.
  • Commitment to Food & Water Watch’s core values of justice, human dignity, fair treatment, and equity.
  • Ability to work effectively with people of diverse racial, ethnic, class, age, gender, and sexual orientation backgrounds.
  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills. 
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills and ability to balance multiple projects.
  • Ability to work remotely using basic online programs, including email, Zoom, Slack, and Google Drive.
  • Willingness to travel.

Desired but not required skills and experience: 

  • Experience with political fundraising for a 501C4 and/or Political Action Committee 

Compensation: Salary dependent upon experience and location.
