Statement by Mitch Jones, Senior Policy Advocate, Food & Water Watch
Washington, D.C. -- “The infrastructure proposal released today by Chairman Bill Shuster would be a major giveaway to the fossil fuel industry. This proposal would limit states’ ability to reject pipelines and other projects under the Clean Water Act 401 permitting process in order to speed the build out of ever more fracked gas pipelines. Just as outrageous is its proposal to tax electric car batteries and bike tires to pay for more highways, while also increasing the cost of local public transit buses.”
“As we grow ever more certain of the need to move rapidly away from fossil fuels, Chairman Schuster’s myopic vision is the exact opposite of the bold action we need.”
Food & Water Watch champions healthy food and clean water for all. We stand up to corporations that put profits before people, and advocate for a democracy that improves people’s lives and protects our environment.
