Today, the corporations that produced the toxic and pervasive per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) will testify before the House Oversight and Reform Committee’s Subcommittee on Environment (Livestream here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yXnS9QD7Np4). PFAS contamination is a national emergency, and the companies responsible for creating these chemicals have not yet been held accountable.
“People have been getting sick and even dying from forever chemicals for decades. Today’s hearing will show how much the corporations that produced these chemicals, including 3M and DuPont, knew about their toxicity despite continuing to produce them for years.
“It’s time for these polluters to pay: they must pay for a long-overdue cleanup of contaminated water and communities, and for the damage done to people’s health. But hearings are not enough. We need Congress to act to hold the companies that produced and used PFAS chemicals, as well as the military, accountable for cleaning up their mess by designating PFAS as hazardous chemicals under Superfund.”
