For Immediate Release
As climate and community activists gathered in Midtown to protest an appearance by the CEO of the Williams pipeline corporation, New York City Comptroller Scott Stringer released a statement opposing the company’s planned fracked gas pipeline from New Jersey to the Rockaways. Citing the city’s plan for a sustainable future, Stringer called the pipeline “a monumental step backwards from that vision.”
In response, Food & Water Watch organizer Laura Shindell released this statement:
"The climate movement in New York state applauds Stringer’s strong opposition to the Williams pipeline, a dirty energy project that is completely at odds with New York’s clean energy goals. As the movement to stop this fracked gas pipeline continues to grow, we urge Governor Cuomo to do the right thing and stop the dirty New York Harbor pipeline once and for all."
