Tallahassee, FL - “After a year filled with inflated promises from many of Florida’s elected officials about a strong commitment to protecting Florida’s environment, our leaders have failed to take the bold action they promised on fracking. By dragging its feet on the fracking ban, the Florida Legislature has left our state’s fragile environment and drinking water aquifers defenseless to potential contamination by the more than 1,000 chemicals that are confirmed ingredients in fracking fluid. Of those 1,000 chemicals, an estimated 100 are known endocrine disruptors, which act as reproductive and developmental toxicants.
"Today, the Floridians Against Fracking delivered to Governor DeSantis a giant legal document with language for an executive order, along with an enormous 'Promise Pen' to call on him to use his executive power to ban fracking. Governor DeSantis should direct the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) to begin the rule-making process to ban all forms of fracking in the state, including hydraulic fracturing, acid fracturing and matrix acidizing. Governor DeSantis made a ban on fracking a key campaign promise. Since the legislature failed act, it is up to the him to see this promise through and use his executive power to ensure all forms of fracking are banned. "
