Hey, remember when Florida Governor Ron DeSantis promised a statewide fracking ban? Well, here’s a little reminder…

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.
Here’s a quote from the State of the State address, which Gov. Ron DeSantis delivered today: “The bottom line is we have a chance to take bold action to make a lasting positive impact upon Florida’s environment. Let’s seize this opportunity.”
Huh, we find that very interesting, because in spite of a campaign promise to protect water and the environment by ending the dangerous practice of fracking in Florida, DeSantis has yet to implement a statewide ban.
He wrote it on his platform...
During his campaign for governor, Ron DeSantis promised that he would advocate for the legislature to ban fracking “on day one” when he took office. Here’s a page from his campaign website outlining his goals (yellow highlighting added):

This campaign pledge came after he was the last of the eight major gubernatorial candidates to state (on video!) that he supports banning fracking statewide. Remember seeing this footage from the Tampa Hannity Fox News campaign event in July 2018?
He needs to fulfill his promise now that he’s in office...
He knew then that supporting a fracking ban was essential to getting elected. But, as governor, he hasn’t followed through. Perhaps that’s why he received a D rating on the environment for his first year in office...
Without a ban, Florida’s precious waterways, aquifers, and coastlines are vulnerable to contamination from the toxic chemicals used in fracking, which threatens public health.
After all, he claims to be a man of his word...
Governor DeSantis, shortly after getting elected to office, said, “If you promise you are going to do something, keep your word.” We plan to hold DeSantis accountable. With widespread public support for a fracking ban in Florida, DeSantis owes it to the Floridians who elected him on the promise of a fracking ban. He has already had a full legislative session, but he’s yet to prioritize public health and safety over corporate interests by issuing an executive order for a full statewide ban on fracking.
We didn’t put words in his mouth -- you can see the evidence for yourself. Will 2020 be the year he shows us we can believe him?
