Delaware County, PA -- Despite Governor Wolf’s executive order calling for an immediate shut down of construction across the state in response to the COVID-19 crisis, construction activities on the dangerous Mariner East 2 pipeline are still taking place now.
A tweet from the East Goshen Democratic Committee claims that construction was taking place this morning, and there are similar reports coming from other people in the areas near the construction sites, including State Rep. Danielle Friel Otten.
Before Governor Wolf’s order was announced, there was conflicting information about the fate of the Mariner East project. But the language in the governor’s March 19 order would appear to clearly classify construction of the pipeline as a ‘non-life-sustaining’ activity.
Food & Water Action organizer Sam Rubin issued the following statement:
“There is simply no justification for Sunoco to put workers and communities at further risk by continuing construction on the dangerous Mariner East pipeline. The order given by Governor Wolf yesterday calls for a shutdown of all construction, which by all accounts would include Mariner East. Governor Wolf must enforce this order and shut down construction of Mariner East now to protect these communities amidst this health crisis.”
