For Immediate Release
The Pennsylvania Public Utilities Commission (PUC) granted an emergency injunction in a case brought by Senator Andy Dinniman over safety issues connected to the construction of Sunoco Logistics’ Mariner East pipeline (Docket No. C-2018-3001451).
This decision effectively halts all construction on the pipeline in West Whiteland Township, while a full hearing before the PUC is pending.
In response to this news, Food & Water Watch organizer Sam Rubin issued the following statement:
“Sunoco’s reckless and dangerous construction poses a threat to communities across Pennsylvania. Unfortunately, regulatory agencies and Governor Wolf have failed to take appropriate action to protect residents. Today’s decision gives hope to the communities along the pipeline route who have demanded protection from Sunoco’s dangerous and unnecessary pipeline. Senator Dinniman’s bold action shows he is ready to do what he can to protect his constituents. Governor Wolf should do the same, by stopping Sunoco once and for all.”
