In another huge win for people power, Woolsey Operating Company, LLC has decided to abandon its fracking proposal and withdraw its application for a wastewater injection well in Illinois.
The company’s decision to not frack illinois comes after fracking activists held multiple anti-fracking rallies across the country, submitted over 5,000 comments to the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) and issued even more complaints about the fracking permit approval process.
IDNR under Governor Rauner granted their permits to Woolsey Energy to frack in White County, Illinois.
This incredible victory is a testament to the power of grassroots organizing...but the fight’s not over yet!
We now urge the Illinois legislature to push forward a fracking ban to solidify a safeguard against fracking in the state.
Without Woolsey pursuing fracking in White County, there are no current fracking attempts in Illinois. Despite this victory, another energy company could file another permit application to frack in Illinois any day -- which is why we need to make our voices heard loud and clear: Fracking should be kept out of our state!
The fossil fuel industry has millions of dollars to lobby our lawmakers, but we have the ability to mobilize grassroots opposition and ban fracking for good. We did it in New York and Maryland, and we’ll do it in Illinois, too.
