Water Campaign: Lobbyist/Policy Analyst

Food & Water Watch is a leading national consumer advocacy organization that runs dynamic, cutting edge campaigns challenging the corporate control and abuse of our food and water resources. We seek an experienced policy analyst/lobbyist to join our team of campaigners and researchers on our Take Back the Tap campaign, advocating for funding for safe, clean, public water.

Food & Water Watch is a leading national consumer advocacy organization that runs dynamic, cutting edge campaigns challenging the corporate control and abuse of our food and water resources.

We seek an experienced policy analyst/lobbyist to join our team of campaigners and researchers on our Take Back the Tap campaign, advocating for funding for safe, clean, public water. The position represents Food & Water Watch in Congress and in the executive agencies on issues related to the water campaign. This position is also responsible for tracking issues related to water, writing policy briefs and conducting research on topics related to the water campaign.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Conduct face to face meetings with congressional members and staff and executive branch officials, maintain frequent telephone communications with staff, provide written materials as requested, and prepare testimony for congressional committees.
  • Track and analyze legislation through the committee process and to the floor of Congress; analyze and comment on executive branch proposed regulations.
  • Conduct research for selecting congressional targets for legislative campaigns.
  • Provide quality written products such as formal correspondence, fact sheets, news releases and op-eds.
  • Build coalitions with other organizations on issues of common interest.
  •  Work with research and organizing staff to ensure coordination with legislative goals.
  • Supervise, train and mentor legislative assistants, interns and other staff assigned to the campaign.    
  • Coordinate with other FWW lobbyists working on other issues.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Professional Requirements:

  1. Education:  College degree required.
  2. Knowledge: Familiarity with Capitol Hill and legislative strategy, advocacy and media relations.
  3. Work Experience: A minimum of 3-4 years of lobbying and/or advocacy of public policy issues, including some supervisory experience.
  4. Skills:  Excellent written and oral communication skills, good interpersonal skills.  Proficiency in word processing; familiarity with databases desirable.
  5. Capabilities:  Ability to think creatively and quickly to respond to legislative developments and to take advantage of breaking news; demonstrated leadership capability;  ability to work well with a wide variety of people and to coordinate diverse tasks.
