We are seeking a Water Campaign director to work with the Executive Director and other staff to develop a strategy and tactics for the all U.S. based water campaigns. The current campaign, “Take Back the Tap, ” is focused on promoting tap water over bottled water, advocating for a clean water trust fund and preventing the privatization of water resources. The position requires a self-starter who has 10 years of campaign organizing experience and has who has the ability to translate policy into action. The person must be passionate and knowledgeable about protecting water as part of the commons and have staff management experience. The Water Campaign Director is based in Washington, DC and reports to the Executive Director.
Specific Responsibilities:
- In coordination with the Executive Director and other staff, sets policy and goals related to water.
- Based on campaign goals, works with the Executive Director and other staff to develop a strategy for keeping water as a safe, clean, affordable resource under public control.
- In coordination with the Executive Director, hires and trains staff and ensures that individual performance goals are met.
- Supervises the organizing efforts for the campaign, including outreach, educational activities, lobbying, local regional and national coalition building, special events and other organizing activities.
- Supervises the policy analyst/lobbyist and ensures that the campaign’s goals are served through legislative and regulatory goals.
- Coordinates with the director of the California Food & Water Watch office on campaign goals and staff management in California.
- Works with campaign staff and lobbyists in developing target lists for Congress and relevant agencies.
- Works with communications staff to develop and implement a communications strategy, including print, radio, TV, and Internet.
- Provides quality written campaign-related products, such as formal correspondence and fact sheets.
- Speak at public events, forums, legislative hearings, and other venues.
- Works with coalition partners to develop and implement strategies at the national, state and regional level.
Requirements:
- Education: College degree required.
- Knowledge: Extensive knowledge of grassroots organizing and public interest campaigns, including legislative strategies and advocacy techniques.
- Experience: Ten years of experience, including supervisory experience. Experience working on water issues preferred.
- Skills: Excellent written and oral communication skills; strong interpersonal, supervisory, strategic planning, and training skills; excellent media skills; good computer skills; familiarity with database programs helpful.
- Capabilities: High energy and enthusiasm. Ability to work well with a wide range of people, work well under pressure, handle multiple tasks at once, and adapt to changing situations on a daily basis.
- Conditions: Strong interest in and commitment to promoting the goals of Food & Water Watch. Long hours possible; travel required.
