Tell the Water Board to prevent water waste first! |
Save Water and Money
There are many reasons to support conservation instead of desalination. A desalination facility is costly and energy intensive. It is estimated to cost over $100 million. Second, desalination of ocean water requires enormous amounts of electricity, would drive up water rates even higher and increase Marin County’s carbon footprint. Furthermore, discharge from the facility could negatively impact the San Francisco Bay.
In response to this $100 million boondoggle, citizens are working together by stepping up water efficiency measures and preventing water waste before pursuing desalination.
