Sustainable Agriculture
While farms have gotten bigger and agribusiness companies have swallowed up their competitors, a quiet shift has been taking place. Farmers and consumers are increasingly opposed to a food system that pushes factory farms, pesticides, and quantity over quality. From this dissatisfaction, the organic, “buy local,” and Slow Food movements have sprung. Parents, armed with concerns about hormones and antibiotic resistance, are buying organic food from their local co-op. Rural, conservative families are mounting campaigns against toxic factory farms as neighbors. And farmers, sick of being beholden to giant companies, are changing their practices to create healthier food with a greater financial reward.
We support a diversified farming system that enables small-scale family farmers to make a living. We support healthy food, with clear labeling that allows consumers to make informed decisions. In particular, we work for country-of-origin labeling (COOL) and meaningful organic standards. Help us move agriculture in a positive way –– join our campaigns today!
