FOIA Letter to FDA for Work Plans

August 3, 2007

Food and Drug Administration
Office of Management Programs
Division of Freedom of Information (HFI-35)
5600 Fishers Lane
Rockville, MD 20857

Delivered via fax at (301) 443-1726 and sent by mail on August 3, 2007.

Dear FOIA Officer:

Food & Water Watch is seeking the Office of Regulatory Affairs’ Work Plan 206 for FY 2001 through FY 2007.  We intend to use these documents to assess how the U.S. Food and Drug Administration allocates its field staff to protect food, drugs, biologics, cosmetics, medical devices, animal feed and drugs, and radiation-emitting products.

As a representative of Food & Water Watch, a non-profit consumer advocacy organization, I request a fee waiver for all costs incurred in the processing of this request because my interest in the information is not primarily commercial, and disclosure of the information will contribute significantly to public understanding of the effectiveness of FDA’s inspection program. We are eligible for a fee waiver because we intend to use the requested information to assess the extent to which FDA is ensuring the safety of food, drugs, biologics, cosmetics, medical devices, animal feed and drugs, and radiation-emitting products for American consumers. Please see the attached fee waiver request.

Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter. Please contact me at (202) 797-6545 or ewurth@fwwatch.org if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Emily Wurth
