Irradiation Facilities

Food irradiation facilities, which use gamma rays, x-rays, or electron beams to irradiate food, aren’t exactly a desirable neighbor. Numerous communities have been blindsided by company plans to construct food irradiation facilities, and have vigorously fought their construction. While Milford Township, PA residents lost their battle to stop CFC Logistics’ food irradiation facility from being built, they won the war when it closed down due to lack of demand for irradiated food last year.

Residents oppose having these potentially dangerous facilities – many of which use radioactive material- in their neighborhood, citing poor security, contamination risks, and potential for accidents.
