Ban, Ban Triclosan!

Great news on the triclosan front: the EPA finally published our petition! Almost one year ago, Food & Water Watch and Beyond Pesticides, along with 84 other health and consumer groups, submitted a petition calling for a ban on triclosan. Not only has EPA finally acknowledged our concerns, they are asking for public comments!

EPA will consider the comments and the arguments from a Food & Water Watch petition and decide whether or not to keep triclosan on the market.

It’s been difficult to get the government’s attention on triclosan, a dangerous endocrine disruptor used in thousands of household products like toothpaste, soap, and deodorant. But now, both EPA and the Food and Drug Administration are investigating the human and environmental harms linked to triclosan.

Now, the EPA has given you and yours the opportunity to speak your mind!

EPA will consider the comments and the arguments we make in our petition and ultimately decide whether or not to keep triclosan on the market.  We encourage you to read the petition here.

Even if you’re not up for sifting through technical and regulatory language, please take the time to submit a public comment. We are closer than ever to making this ban a reality.

  2. I only learned about triclosan about 8 months ago from a friend whose own father, who told him about it, died recently of unknown cancer related deaths! Since then, I have seen triclosan prominently displayed in airplane bathrooms and beyond! I am very appreciative of efforts such as yours! I will do my best to promote your organization because I believe in you!
